Vassil Spassov






Vassil Spassov was born on 17 June 1969 in Sofia. He began his musical education at the class for percussion instruments of Prof. Dobri Paliev. He graduated from the Sofia School of Music, where he graduated in the trombone class of Prof. Dimitar Momchilov. He is a bachelor of the National Academy of Music in Sofia and the Boston Berklee College of Music, where he specialized in piano and film music.

He won experience in music with Phil Wilson, Bill Pierce, Kenny Werner, Bob Brookmeyer, George Garzon and others. Since his debut in 1988 on the stage of the 12th International Jazz Meeting, he has earned a great reputation as a performer and composer as a soloist in the project of Prof. Simeon Sterev. He is known as a leader of and participant in a number of projects and is currently a pianist in the form of "Mikhail Yossifov Sextet" with his own composition "Funkalero", the band "Wild Calls" in collaboration with the singer Militsa Gladnishka and "Romaneno Project".

On stage he collaborated with Teodosi Stoykov, Antoni Donchev, Hristo Yotsov, Georgi Donchev, Theodosii Spasov, Peter Slavov, Stoyan Yankulov and many other Bulgarian and foreign musicians. He has participated in the Cannes - France Film Festival 2011 and participates in the programs of numerous festivals and clubs in the USA, Italy, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Romania, Greece, Serbia and other countries. In Bulgaria he is a regular guest at jazz festivals in Sofia, Russe, Varna, Blagoevgrad, Veliko Turnovo, the Plovdiv Jazz evenings, the Fortissimo Fest, Apollonia, the Perelik Jazz Fest, the Wheel Jazz and many others.

He also actively participates in the club life of the country. He writes arrangements for the Big Band of the Bulgarian National Radio with the conductor Antoni Donchev, the AGBU String Orchestra under the direction of Bedros Papazian, the Festival Orchestra with the soloist Veselin Panteleev - Eshkenazi and under the direction of Maxim Eshkenazi and others. He writes music and arrangements for series of television programs. His work with singer Vasil Petrov is emblematic in a series of Christmas concerts. He has participated as a pianist and arranger in projects with Kamelia Todorova, Beloslava, Maria Ilieva, Ben Cross and others. He is author of theatrical and film music. Vassil Spassov is the author and director of the film "Touch" with actor Itzhak Finzi.
